Ukraine aid fund running low, White House tells Congress
The United States could run out of aid for Ukraine by the end of the year without new funding, a Biden administration official wrote on Monday to Congress. Office of Management and Budget Director Shalanda Young added that if the United States did not continue to send aid to Ukraine, it would “kneecap” Kyiv’s military abilities. The Biden administration earlier this year requested from Congress roughly $106 billion in aid for Ukraine, Israel, and the United States’ southern border.
Will Congress provide more aid to Ukraine by New Year’s Day? Some congressional Republicans have signaled hesitancy to provide further aid to Ukraine. Last month, House Republicans voted to pass legislation increasing aid only to Israel. Recently elected House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., has said he would like to see aid to Ukraine and aid to Israel addressed separately.
