UAW strike nearing end as GM reaches agreement
General Motors representatives announced a tentative contract deal on Monday with United Auto Worker union negotiators. The UAW had expanded its strike against GM after Stellantis and Ford made pending agreements with the union. Negotiators have not revealed the specifics of the GM deal yet, but the contract is similar to the deals made by Stellantis and Ford. It will likely include immediate raises and cost of living allowances. The strike began more than six weeks ago.
Does this mean the strike is over? The UAW workers must still approve all three contracts, but workers have returned to work at all Ford factories and certain Stellantis locations. GM workers are expected to remain on strike until the company formally announces the deal. Strikes could be reimplemented if union members vote against accepting a contract.
