U.S. warns North Korea against arms deal with Russia


An in-person meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin could happen as early as next week. During a press briefing Tuesday, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said that North Korea would “pay a price” if the country moved forward with a deal to provide arms to Russia.

What does Russia want from North Korea? U.S. officials say Russia is seeking weapons for its war in Ukraine. Experts from South Korea have speculated that Kim could ask for aid shipments and military technology in return. The United States has warned that a potential deal would violate UN arms trade restrictions against North Korea.
