U.S. senators visit Ukraine, promise more aid

Sens. Christopher Coons, D-Del., and Rob Portman, R-Ohio, met with Ukrainian families in Kyiv on Thursday. Coons said humanitarian aid will continue, while Portman said that it is in the United States’ interests that Russia not succeed in its military aims against Ukraine. He added that if Putin wins in Ukraine, it could have a negative effect on United States policy toward Taiwan and Iran.

What’s happening in the war? Russia has attacked energy infrastructure across Ukraine, knocking out 40 percent of the country’s power system. That means tens of thousands of Ukrainians are without power. Although workers are repairing the damaged power plants as quickly as possible, it remains uncertain whether they can keep up with the pace of Russia’s attacks.
