Two boys wounded in shooting at Seventh-day Adventist school
Authorities in the Northern California city of Oroville on Wednesday found the gunman dead at the scene with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said. The suspect opened fire in the afternoon at Feather River Adventist school and seriously injured two kindergarten students. The wounded boys, ages 5 and 6, were being treated Wednesday at local hospitals, Honea said. Officials have identified the deceased suspect but have not named him publicly due to an ongoing, FBI-assisted investigation, he said.
What was the motive? Authorities believe the shooter may have targeted the small school because of its affiliation with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Sheriff Honea said. The shooter opened fire shortly after 1 p.m., after he attended a meeting on campus with the principal to discuss enrolling a family member, the sheriff said.
