Two American servicemen wounded in Iraq
Two U.S. soldiers suffered injuries during raids on Islamic State group sites in central Iraq, U.S. Central Command said Wednesday morning. The Americans on Tuesday assisted in site exploitation, a military term that can include intelligence-gathering, after strikes at the sites killed at least seven Islamic State group militants. The U.S. soldiers were in stable condition, the military said on Wednesday morning. Iraqi security forces primarily conducted the operation, but U.S. military personnel assisted them. The attacks targeted several senior leaders in the terrorist organization.
Are these sorts of operations common? U.S. Central Command last week reported that Iraqi security forces, with U.S. military assistance, killed four Islamic State militants in precision airstrikes. One of the militants, Shahadhah ‘Allawi Salih ‘Ulaywi al-Bajjari, was the highest-ranking leader of the Islamic State group in northern Iraq, according to U.S. intelligence.
