Trump's inauguration ceremony moved indoors due to cold
President-elect Donald Trump on Friday said that his Jan. 20 inauguration would take place indoors to protect attendees from cold and snow. Temperatures in and around Washington were expected to stay under 10 degrees Fahrenheit on the day of his inauguration, according to information shared in Trump’s statement about the decision.
Has this ever happened before? Former President Ronald Reagan’s 1985 inauguration was held indoors due to cold weather, Trump said.
The ninth president of the United States, William Henry Harrison, spoke for two hours in inclement weather without a hat or coat, which was blamed for him developing a cold. Harrison soon later contracted pneumonia, dying from it early in his presidency, according to the University of Virginia Miller Center.
So what about the people who are coming into town for the ceremony? Many high-level attendees will attend the inauguration proceedings inside the Capital Rotunda, Trump said. Meanwhile, Capitol One Arena, which seats roughly 20,000 people, will livestream the ceremony for the public, Trump said. The arena would also host the inauguration parade. After the inauguration ceremony, Trump will visit the crowd gathered at Capitol One, he said.
