Trump won’t fire Mueller over email flap

WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump said Sunday he does not plan to fire special counsel Robert Mueller after weekend reports about his investigators obtaining thousands of emails from the presidential transition team. The emails pertain to 13 top Trump associates, and the messages include national security discussions and talks about Trump’s international goals. Mueller’s team, which is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and possible connections to the Trump campaign, reportedly received the emails through the General Services Administration, whose facilities stored correspondence between transition team members. Kory Langhofer, the general counsel for the Trump transition, accused Mueller of improperly obtaining the messages and requested Congress investigate. He detailed the complaint in a letter to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the Senate Homeland Security Committee. Trump returned to the White House on Sunday after a visit to Camp David and said he’s not happy about the situation. “People were very upset about it,” the president said, referring to the associates whose emails were obtained. “I can’t imagine there’s anything on them, frankly, because, as we’ve said, there’s no collusion. There’s no collusion whatsoever. But a lot of lawyers thought that was pretty sad.”
