White House press secretary Katie Zacharia told reporters Tuesday that President Donald Trump asked U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign from her office. The removal came about a month after The Wall Street Journal published a report of misconduct by Guilfoyle. She has denied any wrongdoing.

Trump commented briefly on the resignation while speaking with reporters Tuesday morning, describing Guilfoyle as doing great work until the misconduct rumors emerged. Trump only told reporters that he did not like what he began reading about her. Trump also corrected a reporter who referred to Guilfoyle as almost a member of the Trump family. She dated Don Jr. a long time ago, but was never a member of the family, the president said.

Guilfoyle’s resignation is just a symptom of the corruption throughout the Trump administration, according to a Tuesday statement from the House Oversight Committee’s Democratic members. Regardless of her resignation, corruption like this will continue until the administration is held accountable, the group added.

Has Guilfoyle said anything? The 57-year-old released a Tuesday statement denying all misconduct allegations and vowing to vigorously defend her reputation and integrity. Guilfoyle dedicated her professional career to fighting for justice and refused to allow false accusations to define her decades of public service work, she wrote. Her gratitude to Trump and State Secretary Marco Rubio remained unwavering, and serving the administration was the honor of a lifetime, she added. She also thanked the people of Greece for their hospitality and partnership.
