Trump projected to win second term as president

Editor’s note: This story has been updated to reflect Wisconsin being called for Trump later Wednesday morning.

Early on Wednesday, former President Donald Trump appeared to have garnered enough electoral votes to return to the Oval Office in January. Vice President Kamala Harris had yet to concede the election as of early Wednesday morning. “I will not rest until we deliver the strong, safe, and prosperous America that our children deserve and that you deserve,” Trump said in a victory speech.

How did Trump win? Trump squeezed out victories in key swing states, including Georgia and Pennsylvania. Early Wednesday morning, the Associated Press called Wisconsin for Trump,  giving him an estimated 277 electoral votes, more than the 270 needed to win. Trump nearly lost his life in Pennsylvania earlier this year when a man fired several shots at him during a campaign rally as part of an assassination attempt.
