Trump, Pompeo, Haley speak at CPAC
Former President Donald Trump on Saturday followed two former administration members—Mike Pompeo and Nikki Haley—in speechmaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference. All three have either declared their candidacy for the 2024 presidential election or have said they are considering a run. Trump defended the foreign policy of his presidency. Domestically, he said he would take a hard line on drugs and increase deportations. Trump said he would continue his third presidential campaign even if indicted.
What did Pompeo and Haley say at CPAC on Friday? Pompeo called the recent addition of trillions of dollars to the national debt by both Republicans and Democrats “deeply un-conservative.” Pompeo, Trump’s former secretary of state and a former congressman from Kansas, is considering a presidential campaign—he said on a book tour that he would decide in the next few months. Haley, a former United Nations Ambassador, launched her presidential campaign last month. In her CPAC speech, Haley promised to renew an America that’s “strong and proud” rather than “weak and woke.” Haley condemned President Joe Biden, socialism, and the media.
