Trump pleads not guilty to felony charges

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday pleaded not guilty to 37 charges related to his alleged mishandling of classified documents. The arraignment took place in a federal courthouse in Miami. Trump supporters and opponents alike gathered outside to protest or celebrate the arraignment. Thirty-one of the charges in the indictment allege that Trump violated the Espionage Act, and six others accuse the former president of impeding the Justice Department’s investigation into the case.

What happened at the Miami courthouse? Trump was formally placed under arrest before arriving in the courtroom. He was fingerprinted but did not have a mugshot taken and was not handcuffed. His co-defendant Walt Nauta—a former White House aide—appeared at the courthouse alongside him. Trump planned to appear in New Jersey later on Tuesday for a fundraiser.
