Trump pleads not guilty to 34 felony counts
Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday was arraigned in a New York City courtroom on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. Trump pleaded not guilty to all charges. Prosecutors asked for a trial date of January 2024, but Trump’s legal team suggested the spring of 2024 as an alternative. Judge Juan Merchan did not decide on a trial date, but Trump’s next in-person court appearance is set for Dec. 4. The former president flew back to Florida on Tuesday evening.
What are the charges against Trump? The unsealed indictment accuses Trump of falsifying business records to influence the 2016 election. The grand jury investigated claims that Trump and some of his associates mislabeled payments that he made to keep potentially damaging accusations about extramarital affairs from coming out before Election Day.
