Trump open to Mueller interview
WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump said Wednesday he would be willing to testify under oath for special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation. “I’m looking forward to it, actually,” Trump told reporters at the White House during an impromptu interview. The comments came just days after the Justice Department confirmed Attorney General Jeff Sessions spoke with Mueller’s team for several hours last week. The Russia investigation started in the summer of 2016 to probe alleged interference in the presidential election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign. “Here’s the story, just so you understand,” Trump said. “There’s been no collusion whatsoever. There’s no obstruction whatsoever.” White House lawyer Ty Cobb quickly clarified Trump’s statement, telling The New York Times the president would meet with Mueller’s team if needed but would still receive guidance from his legal team. Cobb added that Trump only meant to voice willingness to meet with the special counsel, and not that a meeting already is scheduled.
