Trump names new head of economic council
WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump announced Thursday he selected Larry Kudlow to lead the White House National Economic Council. “Our Country will have many years of Great Economic & Financial Success, with low taxes, unparalleled innovation, fair trade and an ever expanding labor force leading the way!” Trump tweeted. Kudlow replaces Gary Cohn, who resigned earlier this month. Cohn, a former Goldman Sachs executive, worked for Trump for over a year and left after disagreeing with the president on new tariffs. Kudlow served Trump as an informal economic adviser during the 2016 campaign. He’s a conservative media analyst and longtime contributor to CNBC. Kudlow has also expressed displeasure at the new tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, but Trump suggested Tuesday that Kudlow could come around on the issue. “I’ve known him a long time,” Trump said. “We don’t agree on everything. In this case, I think it's good. I want a diverging opinion.”
