Trump Jr. releases Russia email chain

Donald Trump Jr. released four pages of emails Tuesday, detailing the conversations that led up to his meeting with a Russian lawyer regarding possibly damaging information about his father’s election opponent, Hillary Clinton. The first email came from Rob Goldstone, a British music publicist, who contacted Trump Jr. on June 3, 2016, attempting to arrange a meeting with a “Russian government attorney” who had “documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father.” Trump Jr. responded: “If this is what you say it is I love it.” He forwarded the emails to Paul Manafort, the Trump campaign chairman at the time, and his brother-in-law, Jared Kushner. Trump Jr. published the emails on his Twitter page along with a statement in an effort to be “totally transparent” as several media outlets began publishing details about the email exchange. Trump Jr. said he considered the meeting—which occurred on June 9, 2016—political opposition research.
