Trump indicted on four counts of conspiracy, obstruction
Special counsel Jack Smith alleges that after Election Day 2020, former President Donald Trump conspired to change Joe Biden’s presidential win and attempted to obstruct certification of the Electoral College votes. The 45-page indictment claims Trump and six unidentified co-conspirators criminally conspired to spread false disinformation and interfere with the election. It does not accuse him of seditious conspiracy, a charge several defendants involved in the U.S. Capitol riots on Jan. 6, 2021, have faced.
What happens next? Trump has been summoned to a federal courthouse on Thursday where he will be arraigned and enter a plea. He issued a statement calling Smith’s indictment the real election interference since it comes in the middle of his reelection campaign.
