Trump makes push to revive Keystone XL pipeline

President Donald Trump promised easy approvals and a quick start for developers of the now-scrapped Keystone XL Pipeline. The Biden administration mistreated the developing company but the Trump administration is different, he wrote in a Monday night statement. Another developer could build the pipeline if the previous developer, TC Energy, no longer wanted the bid, according to Trump’s statement.

Why did the project get scrapped? President Joe Biden ended the controversial project in a 2021 executive order issued his first day in office. The pipeline aimed to streamline the transportation of Canadian crude oil down to refineries in Texas. Environmental advocates pushed back on the project over concerns of how it would impact the environment. Native Americans in Montana and South Dakota also argued that the pipeline jeopardized reservation lands and water supplies.

How has TC Energy responded? South Bow Canada, a spinoff of TC Energy, took over TC Energy’s piping business last year and told WORLD that it had moved on from the Keystone project.
