Trump, Biden win New Hampshire primaries
Republican Nikki Haley vows to stay in the race
With nearly 40 percent of votes counted on Tuesday, former President Donald Trump led former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley in the race for the Republican presidential nomination in New Hampshire with 54 percent of votes. New Hampshire Republicans distribute delegates to the Republican National Convention proportionately to any candidate winning over 10 percent in the primary. Trump will likely take over half of the state’s 22 delegates, and Haley will get the rest.
What does this mean for Haley’s chances? After the results were announced, Haley said she would not end her campaign yet. The next Republican presidential primary election will occur in her home state of South Carolina. According to aggregate polling analysis from Real Clear Politics, Trump commands more than twice the support among Republican voters than Haley in South Carolina.
What about the Democratic primary? Because of a spat between New Hampshire Democrats and the Democratic National Committee, President Joe Biden’s name did not appear on the state’s primary ballot. He still won the contest because Democratic voters supported him as a write-in candidate.
