Trump at Davos: America is open for business
In a speech Friday to world political and business leaders in Davos, Switzerland, President Donald Trump touted his America-first strategy. “The world is witnessing the resurgence of a strong and prosperous America,” he said. “There has never been a better time to hire, to build, to invest, and to grow in the United States. America is open for business, and we are competitive once again.” The president said the United States values open and free trade but wants deals that are fair to Americans. Trump was careful to tout America while not alienating U.S. allies. “America first does not mean America alone,” he said. This is the first time a U.S. president has visited the World Economic Forum in 18 years. Trump took a large delegation with him for the trip, including National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, and several Republican lawmakers. The president departed Davos shortly after his speech to return to Washington.
