Trump admonishes Republicans on healthcare
Senate Republicans are gearing up for a consequential vote on healthcare this week, and President Donald Trump warns they better not falter. “If Republicans don't Repeal and Replace the disastrous ObamaCare, the repercussions will be far greater than any of them understand!” he tweeted Sunday. Trump added Monday morning this is the GOP’s last chance to fulfill its seven-year promise of repealing the Affordable Care Act. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., plans to force a procedural vote to begin debate on a 2015 bill that would defund most of Obamacare even though enough Republicans are on record saying they will sink the effort. The vote could occur as soon as Tuesday. McConnell said last week the 2015 repeal-only bill would be subject to amendments. There’s a chance McConnell will resurrect his old repeal-and-replace plan as an amendment to the 2015 bill. But enough Republicans have said they would vote against that legislation, too, without significant alterations. Complicating matters, Sen. John McCain’s, R-Ariz., cancer diagnosis means he won’t vote this week. Senate Republicans hold a 52-48 majority, and without McCain, McConnell can only lose one additional Republican vote and still pass healthcare reform.
