Trump Account app launches, includes economic education modules

President Donald Trump celebrated the formal launch of his child investment account program by ringing the stock market’s opening bell on Monday morning. The program allowed U.S. citizens born between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2028, to receive a tax-deferred investment account with $1,000 seed from the government. The child could use the money later in life to pay for education, buy a home, or open a business. Accounts are free to open and allow employers, charities, and governments to contribute.

The White House framed the Trump Accounts as a pro-family initiative that will teach the next generation about the importance of early investing. The seed amount will compound, and with extra investments over time, the accounts should reach at least $50,000 by the time the child turns 18, Trump said when first introducing the initiative earlier this year. The accounts will track with the overall stock market while remaining under private control by the child’s parents.

Though trading began Monday, the program technically launched on Saturday with an app release. Trump Accounts will give every child a stake in the American Dream, and the app makes accessing and tracking investment funds easy, according to a Saturday statement from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

The program also aimed to expand stock ownership and give lower-income households exposure to Wall Street. The program would increase the number of Americans who benefit from the growth of U.S. businesses and markets across their lifetime, according to the Treasury Department.

What is known about the app? The Trump Accounts app allowed parents and kids real-time access to accounts with the ability to contribute from a mobile device, the Treasury Department reported on Saturday. Account dashboards will show a view of account balances and contributions, along with an overview of investment performance. The app will also include over a dozen economic education modules for both parents and children to better understand saving, investing, compound growth, and diversification.
