Top RNC official resigns amid harassment claims
WASHINGTON—Steve Wynn left his post as finance chairman for the Republican National Committee (RNC) over the weekend following sexual harassment claims. On Thursday, The Wall Street Journal reported the billionaire Las Vegas casino mogul participated in a decadeslong pattern of sexual misconduct, according to dozens of interviews with former Wynn employees. As a powerful fund-raiser for the GOP, Wynn has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars of his own money to political candidates over the years. Republicans quickly began distancing themselves from Wynn, with several lawmakers donating the money Wynn previously gave them to charity. House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., said he would donate the $1,000 he received from a Wynn-affiliated political action committee. RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel didn’t acknowledge the growing scandal until Saturday night, when she issued a brief statement saying she’d accepted Wynn’s resignation. But she did not mention the accusations against Wynn or say what the RNC plans to do with his money. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said on ABC News This Week on Sunday the party should return the funds if the accusations against Wynn have merit.
