Officials in Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Alabama on Thursday put three men to death by lethal injection. All three were convicted of murder.

  • Anthony Darrell Hines of Tennessee murdered and robbed motel maid Katherine Jenkins in 1985.

  • Carlos Cuesta-Rodriguez murdered his girlfriend, Olimpia Fisher, in Oklahoma in 2003.

  • Jeremy Williams in 2021 raped and murdered a five-year-old girl, Kamarie Holland, according to Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey. The depraved nature of the crime was why Alabama had a death penalty, Ivey said. Williams requested a swift execution date and used his last words to claim that God had forgiven him, according to the Associated Press.

Thursday marked the first time since 2010 that three inmates were executed in a single day, according to the Associated Press. While the scheduling was apparently a coincidence, there’s been a marked uptick in U.S. executions over the last two years, especially in Florida, according to AP.
