Harvey Weinstein’s latest New York rape trial ends in mistrial
Former film producer Harvey Weinstein’s third trial in New York over sexual abuse allegations ended Friday in a mistrial ruling. A jury could not reach a unanimous verdict on whether he was guilty of raping Jessica Mann, an aspiring actress. A New York appeals court in 2024 overturned a rape conviction from 2020 on charges that involved Mann and other alleged victims, leading Mann to pursue the case again.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who prosecuted Weinstein, said he was disappointed in the result. He thanked Mann for being willing to recount painful experiences in different trials and said he would consult with her on future legal action.
Weinstein will continue to serve out a 16-year prison sentence he received in 2022 for a California rape conviction. He also awaits sentencing for a sexual assault conviction from 2025, according to Bragg. Weinstein has also paid out $17 million in 2021 to at least 39 women who accused him of abuse. The women had to drop all legal actions against him to receive the money.
