Third committee grills Trump Jr. on Russia
WASHINGTON—Donald Trump Jr. spoke with the Senate Intelligence Committee for nine hours on Wednesday in his third interview with lawmakers regarding alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. President Donald Trump’s eldest son met with the House Intelligence Committee last week and with the Senate Judiciary Committee in September. All three panels, as well as the Department of Justice, are investigating possible Russian election meddling and whether the Trump campaign was involved. So far all of Trump Jr.’s testimony has been classified. But Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said after the marathon meeting that Trump Jr. is willing to testify at a public hearing. Alan Futerfas, Trump Jr.’s attorney, sent a letter to lawmakers on Wednesday to investigate leaks from the closed-door meetings. He wrote that Trump Jr. was under the impression his testimony would be “strictly confidential,” yet he’s seen inaccurate information reported from the meeting with the House panel last week. “While the interview was in progress, members of the committee and/or their staff began selectively leaking information provided during the interview to various press outlets,” Futerfas wrote.
