5&2 Studios released the full, two-minute trailer for The Chosen’s fifth season on Thursday morning. It featured Johnny Cash’s rendition of the folk song “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” played atop scenes portraying moments during what Christians refer to as Holy Week—the period between Palm Sunday and Easter.
Scenes from the trailer appear to include:
Judas’ decision to betray Jesus
Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem
His pronouncement of woes over the city
His cleansing of the moneychangers from the Jewish Temple
Dissension between Roman prefect Pontius Pilot and Jewish religious leaders
The Last Supper
Is there any additional news surrounding the show? Tickets have already gone on sale for theatrical showings of Season Five that begin in late March. On Sunday night, director Dallas Jenkins announced that after the season’s theatrical run, Amazon Prime subscribers will have exclusive access to the season for 90 days before it begins streaming on The Chosen app for free. Previous seasons are already available for free, and Jenkins has promised that all future seasons will also be free, although viewers will have to wait longer to see it than subscribers.
