Thai student kills teachers, grandparents; wounds dozens
A student at Thepsirin School near Bangkok fatally shot five teachers and his grandparents on Friday morning. The shooter also wounded at least 30 students, some of whom were in critical condition, said Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. The 14-year-old shooter ended the attack by committing suicide, according to Royal Thai Police.
Initial investigations indicated the shooter had over 30 rounds of ammunition left and could have caused many more casualties if not for the authorities’ quick response, Charnvirakul said. He also said his government would pursue stricter gun control measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. The shooting was Thailand’s worst since 2022.
What do we know about the shooter’s motivation? He appeared to have planned the crime, according to Charnvirakul. He used at least one legally owned firearm belonging to a family member, the prime minister said.
