Texas police arrest murder suspect in string of attacks

Authorities on Wednesday named Shane James, 34, of San Antonio as a suspect in  deaths of his parents and four other people. A series of  shootings in San Antonio and Austin were reported Tuesday, beginning with the suspect allegedly shooting and wounding an Austin school district police officer. James has a history of mental health problems and is a former U.S. Army infantry officer, authorities said. James was charged with capital murder in the deaths of his parents. It wasn't immediately clear Wednesday if he had an attorney.

How was he caught? Police pursued the suspect as he drove away from a crime scene in Austin, they said. James crashed at a highway intersection minutes later and officers took him into custody. It is not clear if there is any relationship between the man and the four people killed in Austin, Henderson said. The suspect had links to a residence near San Antonio where officers on Tuesday found two more victims, said Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar. Bexar County is about 80 miles south of Austin.
