At least three students were in critical condition after a Wednesday shooting at Evergreen High School about 30 miles outside of Denver, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office. Police during the afternoon searched classrooms and worked to secure the campus, according to an update sheriff’s office spokeswoman Jackie Kelley gave to local news. Details about the suspect or suspects and weapons used were not immediately clear, she added.
Gov. Jared Polis was receiving live updates on the situation and confirmed that state troopers were working to support local law enforcement’s response. FBI agents are also responding to assist at the scene, according to the bureau’s Denver office.
