Tentative deal averts Vegas hotel worker strike at Caesars
Contract negotiators for the Culinary Workers Union said Wednesday they’ve reached a tentative five-year contract for about 10,000 workers under Caesars Entertainment. The deal temporarily averts a strike on the second-largest casino operator in Las Vegas by the number of employees, less than two weeks before the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix Formula 1 race. Negotiators for Caesars Entertainment said the deal includes “meaningful wage increases” and plans for more jobs along the Strip. Wynn Resorts and MGM Resorts could face employee walkouts if deals are not brokered by Friday morning. Union representatives said the deal with Caesars Entertainment will be made public once union members approve.
What do hotel workers want from negotiations? Union workers are requesting higher wages and more job protection against technological advancements. Hotel staff are also requesting more safety measures on casino floors and lower quotas for housekeepers.
