Taliban claims responsibility for Kabul car bomb

A suicide bomber in Afghanistan rammed a car laden with explosives into a bus carrying government employees during early Morning rush hour traffic in Kabul, killing at least 24 people and injuring 40 others. The city’s chief police spokesman, Basir Mujahed, said the attack took place in a western neighborhood, where several prominent politicians reside. The explosion completely destroyed the bus, which carried employees of the mining and petroleum industries, as well as three other cars and several nearby shops. “There were traffic jams with people going to work and to the university and schools,” Mujahed said. “Many of the shops had just opened.” In a statement, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack and said it targeted the bus because its passengers belonged to the country’s intelligence services.
