The spokesman for Jordan’s Public Security Directorate announced on Friday that six people were killed and 28 others injured at a church during a funeral in Jordan’s Karak province.
The spokesman for Jordan’s minister of government, Mohammad Momani, characterized the victims as martyrs and said the unidentified gunmen were being pursued.
What did the King of Jordan say? In a post on social media, King Abdullah bin Al Hussein described the shooting as a terrorist act, adding that whomever was responsible would receive the harshest penalties. He said the attack would not divide Jordanians, and gave condolences to the martyrs' families.
What happened? Security camera footage circulating on social media appeared to show three gunmen opening fire on the street before heading toward the church.
The incident took place in Hamoud, a predominantly Christian town in northern Karak, where people were gathered in a church for a funeral, according to the Jordan News Agency.
