Suspected neo-Nazis belong to British army
Four serving members of the British army have been arrested on suspicion of belonging to a recently banned neo-Nazi group, British defense officials said Tuesday. The West Midlands Counterterrorism Unit said authorities apprehended the four men in central England under the Terrorism Act for their suspected membership in the National Action group. Home Secretary Amber Rudd banned the group in December, describing it as “a racist, antisemitic, and homophobic organization.” The group had lauded last year’s murder of Labour Party lawmaker Jo Cox. The counterterrorism force said the men were suspected of “being concerned in the commission, preparation, and instigation” of terrorism acts, adding there was no threat to the public’s safety. Britain’s Ministry of Defense confirmed in a statement that the four men were serving as members of the army.
