Israel struck the Gaza Strip’s Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis twice on Monday, killing 20, according to the Times of Israel. Rescuers and journalists who rushed to the scene of an initial tank shelling died when a second strike hit the hospital, according to reports the outlet compiled from media and Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry. Five journalists who worked for Reuters, and Al Jazeera, as well as a freelancer for the Associated Press, were among the dead, the outlet reported.
An Israeli army tank team was apparently attempting to destroy a camera stationed at the hospital, believing Hamas terrorists were using the device to track troop movements, according to the Times of Israel. Israel deeply regretted the tragic mishap, the Israeli prime minister’s office said in a Monday statement. Military authorities will conduct a thorough investigation, according to the statement.
