SpaceX stock opens at $150, Musk officially a trillionaire
SpaceX stock hit the public market on Friday for $150 per share, before rising to $165 within the first 30 minutes of trading. The shares made history after hitting the market with the biggest IPO, or initial public offering, before topping the market’s $2 trillion cap. SpaceX founder Elon Musk also made history as the first person to officially become a trillionaire on paper. At the time of publishing, the stock had peaked just after 1 p.m. EST at about $176.
What did Musk have to say? Musk addressed SpaceX employees from the company’s central Texas headquarters, as he remotely rang the Nasdaq opening bell jointly with SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell who was on hand in New York City. Musk told employees that SpaceX aimed to make people excited about the future as they anticipate what the company will do next. There are always problems on Earth, but there needs to be something that makes one excited to get out of bed, and that’s what SpaceX is positioned to do, he said.
