SpaceX rocket, satellite burn up in launch pad explosion
A giant explosion destroyed a SpaceX rocket and satellite during testing on a launch pad in Cape Canaveral, Fla., today. No one was injured, but the blast shook buildings several miles away and filled the sky with dark smoke. The satellite was set for its journey into orbit Saturday and would have provided internet service to areas of sub-Saharan Africa as part of a project sponsored by Facebook. SpaceX has not said what caused the explosion, only that “there was an anomaly on the pad.”
