Southwest flight makes emergency landing after engine cover flies off

The Federal Aviation Administration on Sunday said that Southwest Airlines Flight 3695 landed safely after its engine cowling fell off and hit a wing flap during takeoff.

What happened? When the incident occurred, the aircraft had taken off from Denver International Airport and was headed for the William P. Hobby Airport in Houston. The plane turned around in mid-air and headed back to Denver International, where it landed, and crews towed it back to its gate.

What company made the airplane? The FAA listed the aircraft as a Boeing 737-800. WORLD contacted Boeing for comment about the incident but has not received a response. The FAA says it is investigating the matter.
