Severe storms, tornadoes sweep across Midwest
Compact but strong storms known as supercells raked parts of the central U.S. overnight, killing at least three people and causing damage in Arkansas, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee. One person died when a tornado ripped through Perry County, Mo., about 80 miles south of St. Louis. Eight to 10 homes sustained severe damage there, and strong winds blew several vehicles off of Interstate 55. In southern Indiana, about 30,000 people remain without power.
