Senate subpoenas former Trump campaign chairman

The Senate Judiciary Committee issued a subpoena asking former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort to testify at a public hearing Wednesday. Sens. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said Tuesday the subpoena followed an unsuccessful attempt to agree on a voluntary transcribed interview with Manafort about Russian attempts to influence U.S. elections. Manafort met Tuesday morning with staff of the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is also looking into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential campaign. A spokesman for Manafort said he “answered their questions fully.” Manafort, who resigned as campaign chairman in August 2016, has faced questions about his participation in a June 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer at Trump Tower.
