Sen. Tim Scott backs Trump
U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., on Friday evening introduced former President Donald Trump as “the next” U.S. president. “We need a president who will unite our country,” Scott added. Scott dropped out of the presidential race in November after declaring his candidacy just months earlier. Scott’s endorsement came at a Trump rally in Concord, N.H., just days before the New Hampshire primary. In the state, Trump holds a sizable lead over other Republican candidates in aggregate polls by Real Clear Politics.
What does this mean for other Republican candidates? Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who ranks second behind Trump among New Hampshire Republican voters, receives the most significant blow from Scott’s endorsement of Trump.
