Kennedy drops Dems, campaigns for president as independent
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. confirmed during a rally in Philadelphia on Monday that he would not run for president as a Democrat, debuting the campaign slogan, “Declare your independence.” The nephew of President John F. Kennedy said it was hard to leave the Democratic Party but that the switch was essential to avoid corruption and partisan politics. Kennedy is known primarily for his opposition to industry-wide vaccination standards that have been in use for decades. He has supported legal abortion in the first trimester, affirmative action as a practice, and bans on semi-automatic rifles.
