Secret Service says it’s unsure who left cocaine in White House

The Secret Service has closed its investigation into the bag of cocaine discovered in the West Wing of the White House earlier this month, the agency said Thursday. The cocaine was discovered on July 2 in a cubby hole storage area where staffers and guests store mobile phones. The investigation was closed due to a lack of physical evidence, the agency said. Congressional Republicans, including Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., called the investigation a failure.

What did the investigation entail? The Secret Service said it subjected the package of cocaine to a thorough fingerprint and DNA analysis, neither of which linked a specific individual to the bag. It compiled a list of "several hundred" people who could have had access to the area where the cocaine was found. It added that scouring surveillance footage and visitor logs had also not led them to any specific suspects.
