Secret Service responding to shots fired near White House
The FBI and U.S. Secret Service responded to a situation near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, the northwest corner of the White House grounds, just after 6 p.m. Saturday.
The U.S. Secret Service said that it was aware of shooting reports and was working to corroborate information with personnel on the ground. FBI Director Kash Patel added that his bureau had personnel on the scene supporting the Secret Service. Washington, D.C. police also said they responded. Officials said they would release more information to the public as soon as they were able.
ABC journalist Selina Wang was in the vicinity and reported hearing dozens of shots. The Associated Press reported that the White House went into lockdown and Secret Service agents could be seen on its roof.
The shots rang out just hours after President Donald Trump posted that he was working on negotiations with Iran. He returned to Washington, D.C., rather than attend his son’s wedding over the weekend.
