Sacramento police detain second mass shooting suspect

Officers on Tuesday arrested Smiley Martin, 27, in the Sunday shooting that left six people dead. Police said Martin is still hospitalized for injuries he received in the shooting and, when his condition improves, will be booked on charges of possessing a firearm by a prohibited person and possessing a machine gun. Authorities had arrested his brother, Dandrae Martin, for suspected assault earlier Monday.

Any clarity yet on the case? Investigators are trying to confirm if a street fight outside a nightclub sparked the shooting that included more than 100 shots in rapid-fire succession. Authorities suspect the two brothers with criminal records had stolen the guns. Smiley Martin was released from prison in February after serving time for a felony domestic assault conviction. Police also detained a 31-year-old with a handgun after the shooting but concluded his gun was not used in the crime.
