Russian mall fire kills 64 people

At least 64 people died Sunday in a fire that raged through a busy shopping mall in the Russian province of Siberia. Officials said the fire at the four-story Winter Cherry mall in Kemerovo began Sunday and continued into Monday morning. Russian emergency situations minister Vladimir Puchkov confirmed the casualties after firefighters finished searching through the charred structure. Six bodies are yet to be recovered, he said. Another 10 people remain hospitalized with injuries. Health Minister Veronika Skvortsova said an 11-year-old boy who jumped out of a fourth-floor window suffered the most serious injuries among the survivors and remains in critical condition. Investigators on Monday said police arrested four people for questioning as they launched a probe into possible negligence and violations of fire safety codes.
