Russian forces shell, storm eastern Ukraine
The Ukrainian city of Bakhmut on Monday endured attacks that were part of Moscow’s renewed offensive in the eastern Donetsk region. Kyiv reported at least five civilians had been killed in the shelling, and cities throughout the area had sustained damage. Moscow also launched attacks in the southern region of Kherson, and the United Kingdom Defense Ministry said Russian forces are bolstering defensive fortifications along the battlefront in southern Ukraine.
Is Ukraine equipped to meet the new offensive? Kyiv is expected to receive delivery of Western tanks in the coming weeks, but Ukrainian officials say they still need more ammunition, fuel, and fighter jets. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Monday urged Western allies to increase weapons supplies to Ukraine as soon as possible.
