Russian airstrike kills at least 23 civilians in Ukraine
Russia on Friday launched more than 20 cruise missiles and two drones into Ukraine, striking at least two cities and missing the capital of Kyiv. At least 21 people died in the central Ukrainian city of Uman when missiles hit a nine-story apartment building. A woman and her young daughter were also killed in the eastern city of Dnipro. The Russian Defense Ministry said the missiles were aimed at places where Ukrainian military reserve units were staying before deployment.
What else is happening in the war? Ukrainian defense minister Oleksii Reznikov said Friday that the country is finishing preparations for a counteroffensive against Russian forces. Ukraine’s deputy defense minister said last week that the counteroffensive will not be announced in advance. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Thursday that 98 percent of the combat vehicles promised to Kyiv have been delivered.
