Romney makes Senate bid official

Mitt Romney, a former Republican presidential candidate and Massachusetts governor, announced Friday he will run for a U.S. Senate seat in Utah. “I have decided to run for United States Senate because I believe I can help bring Utah’s values and Utah’s lessons to Washington,” Romney said in a video posted to Twitter. Romney said he hoped to duplicate some of Utah’s economic and policy decisions in Washington. He also noted Utah welcomes legal immigrants from around the world as “Washington sends immigrants a message of exclusion.” Romney’s announcement comes after Sen. Orrin Hatch, the longest-serving Republican senator in U.S. history, announced his retirement in January.
