Reveal of payoff to alleged Trump mistress could lead to tell-all
A woman who claims to have had an affair with President Donald Trump in 2006 says she plans to disclose more information about it since lawyer Michael Cohen admitted to paying her off. In a report published Tuesday, the longtime Trump lawyer told The New York Times he used $130,000 of his own money to pay pornographic film actress Stephanie Clifford, also known as “Stormy Daniels,” just weeks before the 2016 presidential election. The Federal Election Commission is investigating a complaint that the payment constituted an unreported, in-kind donation to the Trump campaign because Clifford’s silence benefited his presidential run. Cohen’s statements to the press invalidate a nondisclosure agreement with Clifford, her manager, Gina Rodriguez, said Wednesday. “Everything is off now, and Stormy is going to tell her story,” Rodriguez said. Clifford gave a lengthy interview to the tabloid magazine In Touch Weekly in 2011 in which she told how she had sex with Trump one time and carried on a friendly and flirtatious relationship with him for several years afterward. Clifford told In Touch the affair began shortly after Trump’s third and current wife, Melania, gave birth to their son Barron. In Touch reportedly held off on publishing Clifford’s account after Cohen threatened to sue the publication, but the publication released the interview last month.
